So a few questions:
I am planning to scrap all the data and reinstall- could you please revoke any registrations that we have for our license please (unluess you know what is causing this issue?)
I thought initially that either the other running instance had affected it. I uninstalled Stear on the VM, remade and resynced the accounts again, and again after testing the server appeared to hang, and on rebooting appeared to have reverted again to the old previous server name (the one on the VM). More problematic is that when this happens the Stear service appears to crash or hang, so the admin tool cant stop or start the service, and only a reboot appears to address the issue.
Do I need to run it in a particular compatiblity mode?

Hi Sue again,

As said on the other post, the symptoms you describe point to the server and the administering of its ip-address and hostname as the real issue (It could even be a router configuration issue).  When these critical network details get issues, STEARsoft will likely then become unresponsive (like having the rug pulled from under its feet) as it relies on a consistent network connection.

I have reset your registration count so that you can re-install without worrying about hitting any limit, though like I've hinted at, I don't think this is your underlying problem.
