James Cox 30 November 2010 09:18 |
Component:STEARsoft What I did: I have just updated to the new version Error Message: NA
The resulting problem is: When I click on the date for the input options to come up the only ones that come up are the present mark and the absent mark, I am unable to save the attendance |

Dear James,
Thank you for taking the time to report this problem. That sounds odd.
I have checked things here and can't reproduce anything similar to what you describe with the latest version, so it sounds like something particular to your installation - and probably unrelated to the new version.
It would be good to see a screen-shot of what you're seeing to try and determine more exactly what the problem is. Using the 'Print screen' button on your keyboard, opening 'Paint', pasting from the clipboard and then saving the resulting file is one way to get a screen shot. You could also crop the image in paint to keep the file size down. I will email you separately, so that you have an email address to send the screen shot to.
It's possible of course that internet explorer might have got into a confused state, and closing and restarting it will have fixed the problem...
Anyway, I shall now send a separate email.
Yours sincerely,
Marcus Butler |

From context, I'm assuming this is about a self-installed server on Windows. There are a few things to check: 1) The most common reason for an error is a firewall getting in the way. On the server machine try switching any firewall off briefly to see if it fixes the problem. If it does, then look to allow stearserver.exe and port 13031 through it. 2) If that's not the issue, try using the server computer itself by opening STEAR Control and clicking the 'Go' button. 3) ensure you include the http:// bit as well if entering the address manually 4) ensure you are on the same network as the server and that you are actually connected to it (and not using 'data' instead) 5) If you're on a more complex network (eg at a school) ensure the network administrators have set up any equipment to allow traffic on port 13031 to be forwarded correctly.
Failing all that, you may like to consider subscribing to a Cloud Server. All these details are then taken care of for you. You can also access it from anywhere (including over 'data') if you're out and about. It's also got 6 years more development (see the Cloud Server information on this website for details). The cost is probably cheaper than the electricity to run your own server these days, let alone the cost of the computer itself, its maintenance, and the space for it. Being part of a super-server in a large data-centre is much more efficient than running your own server.
Do let me know how you get on. |
