Forum thread: Jumped back to data from over a year ago
Melanie Monro 24 May 2019 11:41 |
We synced the ipad as normal on our account and suddenly the data jumped back to March 2018 and has lost everything between then and now. We hadnt opened that old data on either the PC or the ipad and there was no reason for it to jump back. Is there any way of retrieving the data we have lost. We havent backed up since January this year. Obviously will be backing up more often now and thankfully have an excel program with our class lists but the attendance registers are lost since we last printed them and we are manually having to delete the classes and re add all teh students to get the registers correct again. Can you advise why this has happened and reassure me it isnt going to happen again as this is a very time consuming thing to now have to do as well as the annoyance of losing the data. The system needs to be reliable. |

Eeek! I'm sorry to hear that. That sounds very bad. Nothing like this has happened before so it would be good to get to the bottom of it to ensure we know what happened and (like you say) make sure it doesn't happen again.
There are some things we can look at (see below, or next post) - but for moving forwards you could consider using our Cloud Server option. It's no more expensive, gives access from anywhere and in this case we'd be able to restore everything from an automatic backup. Have a look on the STEARsoft website for more details (and to order one - and like I say, as you already have a license, there would be no cost). |

If you haven't started re-entering data, stop and don't do anything in this regard in case we can retrieve your data directly from anything that might be in a data file on your PC.
Without stopping the PC server, are you able to go to the location where your data files are stored and to make a copy of this directory? If you need help doing this, just ask.
Once you've done this, post back here and we'll take it from there.
Yours,
