Component: What I did: Error Message: The resulting problem is: The app keeps crashing when I change the dates for the stats. Just jumps out of the programme. Any ideas? |

Dear Sam, Thank you for reporting this, and sorry you're having this frustration. I have tried to reproduce the problem without success. I've also checked the crash reports sent through Apple and there is nothing there, so it sounds like you've hit a particular situation that is causing the crash. If you are willing, I'd be very grateful for any extra information you can give so that we can try and track this down. I will send by separate email a way for you to send me the crash report that will have automatically been generated; this will tell me exactly where in the code the app has crashed which will hopefully let me work out what has happened. If sending the crash report isn't an option, knowing which dates you are setting it to, what hardware and iOS version you are running and when it crashes will be useful (does it crash when you spin the numbers, or at the point when you press 'Done') - does it appear to be the start date or the end date which when changed causes the problem. Also, is this the Lite version of STEARsoft or the full version? Do you have many students in the class concerned and many attendance sessions? Doesn't seem to be a crash report, but every time I try to put a date, app crashes! Looks great little app, but will need that function?! Sam x |

Dear Sam, Thank you for your emails and further post I have spent some time looking at this and whilst I've not managed to get it to crash on any physical device, I've identified some potential issues in the source code which may or may not be relevant... It would really help if you could answer the following questions to help me determine if any of these things I've found are relevant: 1) Does it crash when you actually change the date wheels, or not until you press 'Save'? 2) Does it depend on whether the Stats screen is showing in 'totals', 'percentages' or 'graph' mode, if so , which mode crashes? 3) Are you using STEARsoft Lite or the full version of STEARsoft? 4) Are you using UK language/preference settings? PS by UK settings I mean on the iPhone itself (changeable in the iPhone Settings area) |

It's an Uk bought iphone, I haven't changed any settings. If you can tell me the steps when I get into settings I will gladly tell you. I replied to your mail above via hotmail, did you get it? Sam x |

As you have hopefully seen in the email I sent today, Apple are currently processing (going through an approval process) a release that will hopefully fix the problems you see. Dear Sam, Thank you for your kind email. For anyone else monitoring this thread, an update to fix this was released to the App store yesterday. The fix is currently only in the full version, not the Lite version. Lite versions of 3.0.0 or higher in the future will have this fix. Yours, Marcus |

I also get a crash everynow and then when I select timetable after attending to a class register ? How do I report this to apple?? |

Thank you Andrew for reporting this. To answer your specific question, you had an option at some point to send annonymous information to apple to help development. Opting in to this automatically sends 'crash reports' to apple whenever a crash occurs. They then forward these to me (the App developer). I think you can change this option somewhere in iTunes, but it's a few years since I looked at this, so I don't have details to hand. Anyway... Reporting to me is even better and appreciated. I've not come across this problem before (myself or reported), so I'm keen to find out more as that sounds annoying to say the least: If you're willing to help me try to get to the bottom of this, I'd be very grateful for any extra information you can give. First questions to help me narrow things would be: What version of iOS are you running? iOS5, iOS6, iOS7? What kind of device are you using (iPad, iPhone, iPod - retina? Bigger screen (iPhone 5)? What version of STEARsoft are you running (3.3.5 or earlier?) Have you used earlier versions of STEARsoft? if so, did you notice whether this problem started happening since upgrading or whether it has always existed. If you're able to make the problem happen again and again fairly reliably, it would be good to know what things you do before it crashes so I can try and recreate the problem here. Any indications towards any of the above, or anything else you think might be associated (however slight) would be gratefully received. Thanks in advance. Yours, Marcus. |

Thanks I have a iphone 4 running iOS 7. Stearsoft just crashed again. I created a class and entered the student into the class and was just about to tick to show the student was present and before I could it simply crashed and shut down returning me to the iphone desktop. When I reopened the class and student was still there but no tick in the attendance section. I ticked it and it was fine. Seems like it crashes randomly most times not at a particular point every time?? |

Hmmm. That doesn't sound good at all. Your description and device information is helpful thank you. I shall look into it. How techy are you by the way? If you'd be willing, it would really help if you could send me the crash log, but the description for this is a little long... Let me know if you might, and I'll send more details. (Nothing has been automatically sent via Apple, as there are still no crash reports for either the Lite or full version of STEARsoft - from you, or anyone else). Thanks again for reporting this. I'm not sure you can manifest the crash log on your iPhone. You have to first of all synchronise with iTunes. The process is best described on various websites. For example, put the following phrase into a search engine: "locating iphone and ipad app crash logs". I have sent a separate email to enable you to send the log file, so if you have a spam folder you may need to check it... |
