Forum thread: iPod Touch

Component: (stearsoft.co.ukSTEARsoft web interfacePalm-device) STEARsoft version: Support request: Hi Marcus, All good so far with the USB sync! A question for you. I sang your praises and now I have a few people in my organisation interested in in STEARsoft. Does it work on an iPod Touch, assuming they have the PC install etc? And I think I asked before, but are you on Twitter? Many educators use it as a network tool. Easy to get exposure!

Hi Brendan,
Thank you for the good publicity. Yes the software does work on an iPod Touch. In fact it was developed with an iPod Touch, and was developed specifically with the iPod Touch in mind :)
If you have others interested, ideally it would be good to install STEARsoft on a PC at work - particularly if you have any WiFi there, as all iPod Touch, iPhone, iPads (and Palm TXs) will come in to their own. Back in the earlier days of development, a key milestone at my school was getting it installed on a PC in the Maths office on the school network. It suddenly made it really easy for others to use - all the download, installation and administration setup was already done and 2 people using it quickly became 10 people using it and two years later the whole school using it (70 teachers). I had to approach the IT technicians in order to install it on a computer, but they've been really complementary about the easy install job for them, so have been really helpful. It's now been running on a proper server for some time and the school pays the license. They've even hooked it up to the school database through an ODBC connection, so teachers don't even need to enter their classes, students or timetable.
You did mention Twitter. I'm not on it I have to confess. I've looked a couple of times without finding anything relevant enough to usefully contribute any suggestion of STEARsoft. I also think the best publicity comes by recommendation from customers rather than from someone trying to sell their own product. As a consumer, I have to confess I will trust much more highly any recommendation from a colleague or even unknown teacher compared to someone representing or selling the product. In short, I'm hoping if people like STEARsoft, they'll do as you are doing and tell other people, knowing that the most reliable recommendations come by word-of-mouth. So thank you on behalf of all those you tell for spreading the word.
Yours, Marcus. |
