Forum thread: Whole school use
Mark Fertig 02 June 2014 19:42 |
Marcus,
The whole school will be running STEARsoft from September after a successful trial year period in the Geography department. We have had some feedback.
Gradebook: Is there any plans for this in the near future? Would be really handy, saving us a lot of time.
Cover: We only employ one 'full time' cover supervisor who has been using the 'All School Data' link to access registers, and the rest of the required cover is done by 2x members of teaching staff (each doing half of the lesson). Is there a way that we can get the class to show in their 'Status window' so they don't have to try and find the class in all school data and also so they can add incidents. Also, a reminder message (like register reminder) that they need to cover a class?
Whole School Incidents: When a student receives 3x negative incidents, they are placed in a detention. It would be handy if there was a way we could view incidents issued by all staff not just the current user so we can count/trace incidents instead of using the planner to record incidents.
Attendance Officer - Edit various student attendance When she gets phone calls about illness, various students out on a trip etc. She needs to go into each separate register for every student to change the codes. Is there a function that could be created where she can select the students and change the marks for the periods necessary, like Whole School Attendance Fill but for certain students?
Homework Diary: Another thing that came up was a homework diary embedded into each class where the homework task details could be stored so the teachers could remember what was set, and also a tick box to select who has done it and for unselected students a button to issue demerits for example?
Is there any possibilities for the above, as this is the feedback from the Geography staff?
Kind Regards,
Sam |

Sam,
Many thanks for this. That is excellent feedback. There's quite a lot there and seeing what might be achieveable (and when) is not something I can instantly comment on but I'll try and give some replies though:
Gradebook: Is on my list, but not sure when. Unlikely to be by September.
Cover: I'm not sure how much of this I'll do in the short or medium term, probably not much. However, being a web-based system, you can use normal bookmarks to give quick access to classes - these could even be desktop icons, or you could even create your own bespoke web page.
Whole school incidents: Relates to a previous post I think. This might be something I can increase in priority for a future version. Again, probably not before September though.
Attendance Officer: In case it helps, what we do at our school is mark the registration classes at the start of the morning and afternoon as priority classes. These then appear in the summary All school Attendance screen for such an attendance officer to quickly access. The in between classes are left for the teachers to correctly mark, but inconsistencies are highlighted automatically to help keep this correct. There's also the sign-in sign-out bit if that's helpful. That all said, I hear what you've said about doing a student flood-fill. I'll add that as a feature to look into.
Homework Diary: Nice idea. This would probably go alongside the Markbook when implemented. In the mean time, I use the class notes to quickly record some of this sort of information. This doesn't easily select who has done it though.
Many thanks again.
Yours,
Marcus |

Pleasure to be of help. Also a quick question, at the end of the year, is there a button to delete all the incidents awarded before a certain date so all incidents are cleared for September?
Kind Regards,

There isn't a clear incidents button at present. Another feature I could add... If important you could in the mean time delete the incident database files (stop the server first) to clear these. Yours, Marcus |
