Component: PC server / iPhone component STEARsoft version: 5.3.0 + latest update on iPhone Support request: Hi Marcus. I updated the PC and iPhone applications and now I can't sync. On the iPhone the message is "Register for free at stearsoft.co.uk to enable the sync feature". On the PC it says "Failed Computer identification - The license activated does not match your computer ID". Where to now? Thanks, Brendan |

The new version is a co-incidence I'm pretty sure. The message on your PC is the cause of the other issue. To fix your problem, one of the following should do the trick. Try these in order: 1) Go into the STEAR Administrator program (off the START menu of windows) and 'Stop' and then 'Start' the server. Try synchronising again. 2) If that doesn't work, press the "Activate full license" button in the Administrator area on the PC. 3) If that doesn't do the job, you could reboot the PC, but this is a last resort.
I suspect the problem is that you have a network card or network usb device that is sometimes plugged into your PC and sometimes not (this could include a bluetooth device) - part of the licensing identification is based on hardware that rarely changes in a PC, but it appears to be causing a pain in this instance.

Dear Pam,
Thanks for your post, and sorry to hear this.
I'm not aware of any such problems created by the new update. The update is a very cosmetic one and hasn't changed any of the data or synchronising side of things; testing hasn't thrown anything up either.
There are 3 things that may help: 1) If you wish to rule out the update being the problem, then try using the Lite version of the STEARsoft App which hasn't been updated. 2) Post back here the exact error message you get on the iOS device when you try to sync. 3) If the message is indicating that there is no connection to the server at all (eg a connection timeout), this may indicate a network connectivity issue. Rebooting the PC that STEARsoft is running on will often fix such network problems at that end, rebooting any network equipment may also help (if running a home style router, these sometimes need rebooting). On the way to doing this you could run the 'STEAR Administrator' program on the server PC (installed on the Start Menu) to see if the server has stopped running if you wished to gain deeper understanding as to what might be happening.
If this doesn't get you working, please do post back with more details and I will try to help further.
