Component: (stearsoft.co.uk/STEARsoft web interface) STEARsoft version: 5.8.7 Support request: How to change the order in which students appear on a register Hi Marcus I've been struggling with this problem for days now, having tried deleting student data then re-entering it, playing around with school identifier numbers etc etc. I have 3 students with the same surname in one class, but their names do not appear in alphabetical order by first name. I have checked the school's central data and the IDX numbers (which are correct), but the order in which they appear is wrong there, too. Is there a way to update the data so that it appears correctly? I have screen shots of what I mean if this does not make sense. Best regards Priya |

Hi Priya, Thank you for your post and sorry to hear of your frustration. The sorting is done primarily on surname and first-name, so you should not need to fiddle around with other things. The two things I've wondered are: 1) Maybe there are non-visible extra characters in one of the surnames (eg a space at the end), or are there any non-standard ASCII characters in the first-names (ie not straight-forward ASCII a-z A-Z characters). These might well upset the sorting to result in something unexpected... If this is the case, let me know details and I'll see if there's a safe update I can do to fix it. Failing that, a screen-shot may well be the best way of me getting to the bottom of it. Yours, Marcus |
