Forum thread: Move Data location and Upgrade to 5-4-0
Hannah Young 09 September 2011 11:44 |
Component: (stearsoft.co.uk/STEARsoft web interface/Palm-device) STEARsoft version: Support request:
Hi Support,
We need to the software on to the Domain server from the workstation where it was initially installed.
As there is an upgrade (5.4.0), This is what we will now install on the Domain Server.
Could you please advise the following:-
1: Please advise how to change the location of the data files from the default location (C:Program FilesSTEARsoftRegdata) as we want to include them in the daily backup routine.
Regards

Dear Hannah,
You have correctly located the data files, and simply copying all the files from that directory to a new installation will transfer all your data. Be aware though that the data files are cached into memory while STEARsoft is running and are then overwritten with any changes periodically, so to do this successfully, you will need to run the STEAR Administrator program (from the START menu), click to 'Stop server', THEN copy the files, THEN 'Start server' - in other words copy the files while the server is stopped.
If you wish to change the location of the files on the computer that STEARsoft is installed, you can do this by manually changing a registry value: 1) From the Windows START menu choose run... and then enter regedit (or run regedit by some other method) 2) In regedit navigate to: My Computer/HKEY-LOCAL-MACHINE/SOFTWARE/STEARSoft/Reg (but underscores and backslashes instead of what I've written) 3) Change the 'datadir' entry to the new location of files. 4) Using STEAR Administrator, stop and start the server. When restarted it will use the new directory location.
I hope that helps.
Yours,
Marcus. |
