Component: (stearsoft.co.uk/STEARsoft web interface/Palm-device) STEARsoft version: Support request: Dear Marcus Can you please tell me if this system would meet our needs albeit that it is manual input not a swipe card input system. 1. I have been asked to source a swipe card Attendance registration system for the church adult education school I attend. so students will swipe when they attend and leave. the course is 2 full days thurs and fri. On the Friday everyone goes out to do some practical activation hence leaves and returns to the church for remaining classes fri afternoon - I am not sure if a system records more than 1 In and 1 out. 2. also we would like to record if and when 1st years hand in a weekly assignment plus 1 monthly assignment but do not need to record any marks, just that the work was done - this would need to be done manually either yes or no on a date.. 3. each week the school tutors meet on a tues and wish to either look preferably on a PC or have a manual report of attendance and if assignments were done. The school is currently 40 in year 1, 15 in year 2 , and 5 in year 3 so about 60 students. they hope the school will grow to 120 in the coming years. The church's computers seem to run with MS 365 software from what I was told. the above is my remit. what systems are there and what is the cost? They would like it ideally by our start of term 17th sept though it would be nice for 10th. Additionally - I was just wondering but this is NOT what I have been asked to provide - the church also runs an evening class fortnightly and I believe there are 150 + students. they may possibly b e interested in recording just attendance for that. Dear Linda, Thank you for your post and enquiry. 1) not being a swipe card system, STEARsoft requires a leader or teacher to mark everyone present. It doesn't really work with students marking themselves. You can have more than one session in a day - you'd normally have a morning attendance register and an afternoon one, but you could have more (eg hourly). There is a separate sign in/out feature in STEARsoft but this is really for the irregular (medical appointment part way through the day) rather than regular things. I'd suggest using the am/pm (2 session) attendance style for what you are describing. 2)I wouldn't use STEARsoft for this. Whilst you might be tempted to add an attendance column and use that, it would likely confuse the real attendance data down the line and be difficult to extract. I'd suggest a separate system and personally I think a spreadsheet is hard to beat: spreadsheets are also easy to share for example google sheets enables several people to add to one spreadsheet simultaneously - and all backed up with each change recorded. I suspect office is similar. Separate systems also have the advantage that if you change your attendance system you don't have to also change the marks system. And vice versa. 3) STEARsoft works in classes - with a class size limit of 36. This limit might be a show-stopper for groups of 40 - unless that's split into 2 groups... Reports and centralising data is all good with STEARsoft, but it needs someone to set things up and to have a dedicated computer that centralises the data and always needs to be on. Finally the evening thing could work if split into several classes (each of 36 or less students), but otherwise probably not. STEARsoft is also not suitable for people marking themselves present. For anyone reading this thread, the full iPod/iPad version has been updated to support class sizes greater than 36. Available now in the App Store. You should synchronise with the new Cloud Server version of STEARsoft if using class sizes greater than 36. A STEARsoft Cloud Server also supports class sizes greater than 36. |
