How do I use the system on more than one pc? |
Marcus Butler (STEARsoft) 02 December 2008 20:55 |
If you are on a network, STEARsoft only needs to be installed on one computer. Provided that computer is switched on, you can access your data from any other computer on the network. To do this, take a note of the web-address shown in the "STEAR control" window. Type this into the address bar of a browser on any other computer connected by the network to access STEARsoft. If it doesn't work, check firewall options and network routing options to make sure IP network traffic on port 13031 isn't being filtered.
If you wish to synchronise a Palm device to two different computers (eg one at home, and one at school), set one computer up properly with a license and enable your palm device with a license from there. On the other computer, provided you only have the single teacher account that will synchronise with your palm, you do not need a license, as it uses the synchronised license from your Palm to activate the software. |

If you want to install two separate STEARsoft servers on difference computers, then you would need two separate licenses, which means two different email accounts and separate customer IDs etc. This is because STEARsoft is designed to run on one server with multiple accounts that can be accessed from any computer on a network. If you have a sensible need for more than one server, please explain your situation and we'll see if we can help. |

Hi we have 2 computers in the office but no network I would like Stearsoft on both computers to be able to access the data so my tutors can input their registers using either computer. we do not have Palm devises. How can I do this |
Marcus Butler (STEARsoft) 09 July 2010 16:46 |
Dear Sue,
What you describe requires linking your computers together to make a small network. It's called a network even if it's just two computers and gives useful benefits. It doesn't have to be very expensive. You may know someone with an old broadband router that they no longer use - this will do the job combined with a couple of cables. If not, you can buy a 'switch' for about 10 pounds (GBP), or spend 15 pounds to get something that will do WiFi too and let people use an iPhone or iPod touch to do their register. You'll also need two cables (one to connect each computer) for 2 or 3 pounds (GBP) per cable, depending on length.
Many people do this sort of thing in their home now, so if you ask round someone may be able to help you do this for not much money.
Good luck!
Yours,
Marcus. |

Hi There, How do you put STEARsoft on The Network,I am realy stuck,Please Help
Thanks |
Mr Marcus Butler 30 December 2010 19:21 |
Dear Karl,
As said above, putting STEARsoft 'on the network' is as simple as just installing it on one computer. It will then automatically be on the network ready to use.
Have you installed it onto a computer yet? If so, have you tried using another computer as described above. At what point do you get stuck?
Yours,
Marcus. |

Hi Marcus,
Firstly thanks for great product. We have two buildings which are very near each other, but they are on seperate wifi routers...
We have set up stearsoft on my laptop (the main laptop)Currently our staff are having to wait til they are in my building to sunc their iphones/ipads....
is there a way round this? using 3g? or is the best bet to get vpn?
thanking you in advance.

Dear Pam,
Thank you for your post.
If your buildings are closer than 100m apart, I'd try and run an Ethernet cable between the buildings and connect the WiFi routers directly together (perhaps with an Ethernet switch between them) to make a larger network that spans both buildings. Such a cable could go in the air from roof to roof. If this sounds possible post back if you'd like me to expand.
Failing that, some sort of link via the Internet to link your routers would be best (perhaps VPN, but the options here are not my area of expertise). Ending up with one network across both buildings is likely to have other benefits too and should be your goal here.
Yours,
Marcus

We are planning on trying to use the software to do the registers for our trampoline club as we are struggling to find software to use and this has a lot of things that would work for us.
We have the main computer at our house (where the main office and paperwork is done) and another computer in the small office at the gym. We would be doing the registers on an ipad in the gym itself. Is there any way of having the program running on the home pc primarily but accessible from the pc in the gym? it would be great to be able to have up to date registers on the ipad by syncing in it gym rather than having to bring it home to synch it to the up to date registers.
Best Regards, Mel |

Dear Mel,
Thank you for your post. Did you get synchronisation working? If so, what was the problem?
You can't synchronise two PCs directly, only via an iPad but that doesn't work for you if you want to keep the iPad at the gym. You could have one server and use VPN to remotely view the data. It might be possible to set up a remote synchronisation from the iPad using VPN, but this is not something I've tried.

We have STEARsoft installed on one machine in our main office. Is it possible for our staff to be able to input their own registers from their laptops individually if this was on the network? |
Marcus Butler (STEARsoft) 25 August 2015 14:52 |
Hi Elaine, Thank you for your post. Yes. Provided you connect the computers to the same network just use the same web address. The only thing to watch is firewall issues. If it doesn't work from a remote computer try switching the firewall off on the computer STEARsoft is installed on. This will indicate if you need to let STEARsoft through your firewall.
