I'm afraid I'm in a total muddle with all of this. I've had the app on my iPad for a few weeks and it's been brilliant. I've then purchased the license for 200 students to my iMac and now I can't sync them together. I don't know how to find the server address (I've tried putting in what I think is my IP address and I'm getting a 966 error). I don't actually know what a port number is so have left that as the default of 13031, but I'm not sure if this is correct and none of the YouTube tutorials seem to apply to my issue. I also can't seem to access the administration page. The only one I get online is the page that allows me to buy licenses and contact forums. Is there a way to access my main page? Any help would be much appreciated.

Dear Claire,

Thank you for your post. I am sorry to hear of your frustration.

In short, STEARsoft cannot run directly on a MAC. It needs to be installed on a PC (Running Windows) using the install-program on the Download page. If you have a PC that you can install onto then things should begin to make sense and match the tutorials. Once installed on a PC, you can then use your MAC (if on the same network) to use STEARsoft over your network.

I can see that you have not activated your license, so it is effectively unused and still in its virtual 'wrapping'. If you don't have a PC or don't wish to use this license on a PC, then I can issue you a straight full refund.

Please let me know if you would like me to go ahead and process such a refund, otherwise I wish you a smoother process when installing on a PC (obviously, post back here if you go down that route and encounter problems).

Hi Marcus
I wonder if you can help.  I work for Claire as her bookkeeper and need sight of the registers.  I work off a PC so we would like to install Stearsoft on my PC so we can both view.

I've downloaded Stearsoft onto my PC and logged in using Claire's details to get onto this forum, but  am not really sure what else I need to do.

Hoping you can help.

Dear Allyson,

Thank you for your post.

If you have downloaded STEARsoft onto your PC, have you also installed it (by running the downloaded install program)? If so, from the Start button in Windows there will be a new STEARsoft folder in which you will find 'STEAR Control'. Click on this to start STEARsoft. The best guidance I can then give you is visual, so I'd urge you to look at the tutorials, in particular the 'Quickstart' tutorial under 'Tutorials for Individual Deployments (single user)' which will give a video explanation to help you get started. The tutorials are found on the main website, or with this direct link:

Instead of doing all the setup on your PC, once you've created a teacher account, try to synchronise Claire's iPad. Viewing the 'Copy from Lite to Full' tutorial in the 'iPhone Tutorials' may help with this stage. Once she's done a successful 'Sync', you should then be able to view her data on your PC (by logging in as her as per the tutorial). Whenever she does a subsequent 'Sync' your PC will be updated with her new changes.

Have a go at following the above, and then get back to me with details of where you get stuck and I'll try to help further (or give pointers to suitable visual tutorials).
