Forum thread: Data Protection

The free trial is great! Definitely thinking of purchasing license for our school. I just wanted to know-what safeguards are in place regarding data protection? Obviously, the data is on the school's internal system, and requires passwords for entry, but could you give me some info about how protected we are, considering the registers contain childrens' names, dates of birth etc etc.

Many thanks

Dear Hannah,

Thank you for your post.

If you haven't found it already, you might find the 'Security of data' section in the User Guide of some help: Click on 'User Guide' on the first Welcome screen of the software, or click the 'Help' link on the left options panel when logged in as a teacher or the administrator.  Under the 'Technical Administrators' section is a link to 'Security of data'.

As you say, the data is stored centrally on a server so you would need to ensure that computer was safely secured. If handheld devices are used, the data stored on those is just the data relevant to that teacher (so risks regarding data protection are minimised there), and securing the device (as is normal, with a password) would effectively secure the data.

Please do ask further with more specific questions if you still have any.

Yours,

Marcus

PS  Given you're talking about a school deployment, you may be interested to hear the version currently in test has a new central student data area to ensure consistency and accuracy of data across the school; Student names and details are entered once, and then teachers select from that list ensuring the information propagated out is correct and less prone to human error.
