how do i make a school register

hi holly

you need:
 - A class with some students in it
 - A term added (with term dates)

Then go to "Make registers" (on the left menu in the normal teacher area)
Tick the box for the classes you want in the terms you want and press the Generate button at the bottom.  Note that registers in the past aren't made unless you change the Start-Date.

When you view your class it may be blank because it only shows the last two weeks.  In a class register page choose the term and press "Go" to see the whole term.

Let me know how you get on.

Sorry - one other thing:
Before to do "Make registers", you also need to have specified your timetable so STEARsoft knows when your classes are.

Help!!

When setting up my registers I was hoping to back date information.  Unfortunately I missed the request to change the start date.  Although the dates appear on the register the system has automatically entered a black line (na.  How do I overwrite this?  In trying to solve the problem I also now have duplicate sessions!  How do I remove these?  Many thanks Natalie

Dear Natalie,

I'm guessing from what has happened that you may not have the most recent version which helps prevent the situation you find yourself in.  It is worth updating if this is the case.  The latest version as at today is 4.3.0

To get rid of duplicates:
1) Ensure you have the latest version
2) edit your timetable to remove the lessons for which you have duplicates
3) Do a "Make registers" with the new (non advanced) screen - select just the class(es) in question, and ensure you select "without overwriting existing attendance data".   This will remove all lessons for which you haven't marked any attendance.
4) Put your class back in your timetable
5) Do a "Make registers" in exactly the same way as 4.  Your lessons should reappear without duplicates.

...continued

If you still have black bars for lessons in the past after any upgrade and after the process described above, for the class in question click on the "Class Details" tab.  click on the date to the left of student names to adjust it (this is the start date of the student).  You'll have to manually type the first date to go back to, but then for other students it will appear as an option.

Do let me know how you get on.

There are other things that could be done if this doesn't get you up and running again.

Best wishes and good luck!

Marcus.

PS  the "4" in step 5) above should have said "3)"

Dear Mr. Matthew,

As detailed on the Welcome page; The username and password for Administrator login are initially "admin" and "admin". You can change these (reset them) using the "STEAR Administrator" program. The "STEAR Administrator" program is installed under your Start menu in Windows when you installed STEARsoft.  See one of the getting started tutorials or the passwordhelp.php page on this website for further details if necessary.

Yours sincerely,

Marcus Butler.

Dear Amy,

If you didn't set it initially, it is just admin and admin (lower case).  To change it, or see what it currently is you need to use the STEAR Administrator program that gets installed under the Start menu on the computer you install STEARsoft on.

For further details on this, on the main STEARsoft website click on the FAQ link, and the 6th question has a link to what is hopefully a helpful page about passwords.

Yours sincerely,

Marcus Butler
