Hello,
A DNS error indicates a more general network problem in resolving your computer name to an IP address... Hmmm.
Can I suggest the following: 1) Open a Command Prompt. (From the start button, press "Run..." and type in "command" and press enter to run it.) 2) In the Command prompt window type "ipconfig" and press enter. 3) Your IP Address should be listed (eg something like 192.168.1.64) along with other information. 4) When you start STEARsoft, it tries to start in a web-browser window (see STEAR control for the address it uses). Try replacing your computer name with your IP address instead in the address bar of your web-browser. You will still need the http and :13031 bits.
Doing the above will hopefully work by missing out the DNS part of the network communication. Save the working page that comes up as a favourite or shortcut on your desktop for future access.
Do reply here with how you get on.
Regards,
Marcus. |

Hi, Thanks for your help. Should have guessed it would be a microsh.. error. Have now got access but it wont let me activate the licence. Could this be because i've got a new laptop? The old one died a death suddenly. |

Hello again, I'll reset the lock on your account so you can transfer to the new laptop. I can't do this indefinitely, but no problem for an occasional genuine machine swap. It requires a slightly involved process (manually adjusting account details) which I won't be able to do until much later today. I will post another note when it's done (could be up to 11 hours from now). Regards, Marcus. |

Hello Marcus, Thanks for your help. We are in the midst of an expansion at the moment and the register will eventually reside on a desktop machine (server) in the college. Will it be an issue transfering the account from this laptop to that pc when the time comes? I need the flexibility of the laptop at the moment to get the register set up properly. Do i neeed to pay for another licence to avoid this issue. I dont mind paying for the flexibility if I need to. Thank you. Babatunde |

Dear Babatunde,
I've now reset your account, so you can activate STEARsoft on your new laptop.
If you have one more move later in the year I could do another change for you (contact me again on this Forum). If you want the flexibility to chop and change or use both at once, there isn't a way of doing that with a single license. However, you could register a second email address to give you a new account, so you have one account for each computer.
If one system is just testing and setting things up, you may be able to manage with a free trial activation on one - it only limits you in the number of MARKED attendance sessions. There is no limit to the structure you can set up ready to be used. It might be that you want to set up a new trial account for your laptop, and save your full license for the future desktop; the way it works is that the first time you activate a copy of STEARsoft, the license you use becomes locked to that computer. Regards, Marcus. |

Hello Marcus, Me again. I know this has probably been asked 100 times before but...how do I print attandance historylogsummary for an individual student. I am slowly getting to grips with this software but cannot find the solution. I can view and print the attandance for an entire class but I need to be able to print attendance for each student. Please help. Kind regards Tunde |

Dear Babatunde,
If you give each student a unique "School Index" number, Then in the most recent version, there is an option to click on lesson-by-lesson attendance for a student. Access this either from the student details view, or by clicking on a student in the "Summary" tab for a class. This gives a comprehensive page of single student attendance - then use the browser's print page function.
Alternatively, go to "All School Data" (link at bottom of main teacher page), then the "counters" tab. Various options here give outputs that may be useful depending on your needs. If you need statistical data, the 4th option is best. Use the first for a .txt version of attendance registers, which you can then easily edit to print off attendance for a single student. Note that this only picks up "Priority" classes though.
I hope that might help. The assigning a unique "School Index" number could be the key perhaps?
Kind regards,
Marcus. |
