Forum thread: technical setup support

Hi
I am trying to use STEARsoft in our school.  I installed it on my laptop and put all the information into it (students, recent attendane etc). As it was on my laptop I needed to transfer it to the main computer in the office, so I followed the instructions to move the data file.  However, when I try to open it on the office computer, it says I'm logged in at two places.

Secondly, where do I get the address from, so that other teachers can log in from the laptops in their classrooms?

Thank you

Dear Office,

Thank you for your post.

I'll answer the second question first:
You will hopefully have installed STEARsoft on the office computer before then copying the data files across. As part of that installation, there is a 'STEAR Control' program installed (from which you will have started STEARsoft). The address next to the 'Go' button (in STEAR-Control) is the address that other teachers can use in a web-browser from their laptops. Note that their computers must be on the same network, that the office computer must have STEARsoft and port 13031 allowed through its firewall and that the address is used exactly as shown (including the :13031 at the end).

I'm struggling a little on the first question to visualise at what point you are getting this problem; it's not a situation I immediately recognise. Is it when starting 'STEAR-Control' you get the problem? or when pressing the 'Go' button? Or is it at some other point? It would also be useful to see what the exact wording of the error message is and whether it's a windows message or something within the STEARsoft program...  It sounds like an unrelated (non-STEARsoft) issue, or maybe that the instructions you followed for copying the data have mislead you into some odd situation.  Which instructions did you follow?  Did they tell you to install STEARsoft again with the setup program, to stop the server (using STEAR Administrator) and to then copy the entire 'data' directory across? (that's pretty much what should have happened)

I look forward to hearing a little more so that I can help you more fully.

Yours,

Marcus

Hello,

I use your app during the last week and is what I was looking for.
However, as I am located in Greece I want to use an international characters set (i.e. Greek).
The app works as it should, the result however when reporting creates unreadable characters.
Can you please advise if there is a way to fix it or if this is not supported now (international characters) if you have in your plans to support it later?
Once more, thanks for your app. Inteligent and very practical implementation.

Regards
Tassos K.
